Code of Conduct
We follow will be following the RAS meeting’s code of conduct definition of harassment. Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, violence, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Reports of harassment in any and all forms will be treated with the utmost severity and confidentiality.
During the sessions it is expected that attendees give the speakers the adequate uninterrupted time to communicate their research. Be mindful that many people will have travelled considerable distance to attend this conference and may be their first opportunity for to speak at event such as this. We ask that attendees arrive promptly to each session, set their electronic devices (including laptops and mobiles) to silent, and if arriving late/must leave the session for whatever reason that they do so as silently as possible to minimise disruption. Other forms of disruptive behaviour, such as having loud conversations during a talk, will not be tolerated.
More generally, treat each other with kindness and compassion, this includes behaviour directed towards university staff aiding in running the event. Professional behaviour is expected at all times, remembering that content/language/imagery falls under the umbrella of harassment is not appropriate under any circumstances.
By registering to attend this conference you are agreeing to follow these rules while at the conference. Participants will be notified of their failure stick by these rules and will be expected to immediately adjust their behaviour accordingly. Failure to do so will result in being asked to leave the conference, without a refund of any fees levied.
To report a violation please seek a member of the local organising committee. If you do not feel comfortable approaching somebody to submit a report, please email milncecentre@hull.ac.uk with the subject line “code violation”. This email will be regularly monitored throughout the event to ensure a quick response. We will also provide a method of reporting violations anonymously at a later date (before the conference starts).
